But did all the Clinton years not bring about any change? There was quite a time lapse between Bush I & II - except for those who see 8 years as just a brief vacation. Let's hope the next administration will act more responsibly, intelligently, and with bigger ears for those with good advice.
- OmymaOmymahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17934478510394910840noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3625041793701316297.post-89001506660452891532007-06-16T17:43:00.000-06:002007-06-16T17:43:00.000-06:00This goes back even further. He also knew that U.S. military presence would breed resentment among Muslims. Indeed, when U.S. and foreign troops were sent into Beruit in 1982, the results were attacks upon American civilians and civilians of the foreign nations that also participated in the Lebanon peacekeeping mission. Also note that even though the U.S. has supported Israel since its inception in 1948, the U.S. suffered few (virtually no) Islamic/Arab/Palestinian attacks upon U.S. interests. (There were two incidents however -- an attack upon the Saudi Embassy in Darfur in which two American diplomats were killed, amongst others. But this attack was not specifically against Americans. And there was the Iran hostage incident of 1979, which again can be attributed to anti-American resentment due to U.S. installation and support of the Shah.)

So Bush the elder KNEW the type of response to expect if there was prolonged U.S. military presence in the Arab lands of the middle east -- terrorist attacks upon the U.S. and U.S. interests. In fact, those attacks commenced shortly after the Gulf War, with the first bombing of the WTC.

I think the neo-cons and the imperialists welcomed those attacks, knowing full well that if a bad enough attack occurred, they could get all of the oppressive expansion of U.S. government power they dreamed of, including a more imperialistic U.S. foreign policy.

One does not have to posit some hidden conspiracy regarding the 9-11 attacks. One just has to look at the public actions of daddy Bush's administration and ask oneself what the likely consequences of that adminstration's foreign policy would be and whether those consequences are something that daddy Bush's administration should have known.

Daddy Bush and the neo-cons knew those types of attacks would occur and that they would be able to use them for their political goals.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3625041793701316297.post-20218373772589145422007-06-14T12:18:00.000-06:002007-06-14T12:18:00.000-06:00Thank you.
