Holy Palin! Xians Pray to Golden Calf to "Save" Economy, "Convert" Pagan "Liberty"

Just when you think you've seen it all, the sheer anti-logic of the "evangelical wing" - or perhaps I should say "wings" - is going out of its way to appear at the apex of hypocrisy after declaring, innocently enough, a “Day of Prayer for the World’s Economies", and then praying at the feet of a "Golden" - well, actually bronze - statue of a Bull, originally set up to satirize Wall Street Greed. Wonkette noticed the Biblical proportions of this thing... According to the guy who dreamed this all up,
“We are going to intercede at the site of the statue of the bull on Wall Street to ask God to begin a shift from the bull and bear markets to what we feel will be the ‘Lion’s Market,’ or God’s control over the economic systems.”

Apparently, the commandment not to worship idols was lost on these guys. How could they have been blinded to this?
Maybe they were inspired by the Osteens' pray-for-stuff philosophy:
Over and over, in sermons, books and television interviews, the Osteens repeat their most firmly held beliefs. If you pray to Jesus, you'll get what you want.

Which, however, ignores such things as, say, the Ten Commandments. Religion for them is very much into material stuff, as when Victoria O was asked about religion per se:
When I asked her how she kept her two children interested in church, she answered that even though they were a broccoli and lean-meats household, she gave them doughnuts as a special treat on Sundays.

She came up with doughnuts - (what elitist wrote that? DONUTS it is) - as a way to be "interested in church". This donut-faith connection shows the shallowness that could easily pray to a Golden Calf and miss the obvious. On the one hand, a bull. On the other, donuts.

Meanwhile, we are waiting with baited breath for Sarah Palin to stop the racism, violence- and hate-mongering that her crowds revel in. Here is the latest in a depressingly long line of such expressions.

A hangman's noose was found near an election sign for Democratic U.S. presidential nominee Barack Obama posted near Clermont, Fla., police say.
...
"It's unbearably heinous; it's like having the KKK right here in Clermont," resident Barbara Reed said, referring to the Ku Klux Klan white supremacy group.

Where's Palin and her Xian crowd? Praying for "socialism from space". Or maybe she's getting some kids to bus in to fill out McCain's rallies. Better yet, she might just fade away?

It turns out, the only thing that's actually working for the McCain campaign is the daily inciting of rage, fear and hatred among the easily-led gomers lined up outside of Sarah Palin's rallies. I repeat. The one thing that appears to be working nicely for Sarah Palin and John McCain right now is the really evil and divisive stuff.

And we simply can't allow Sarah Palin's fear-mongering -- her Neo-McCarthyism and her Neo-Southern Strategy -- to ultimately be the one successful thing about this otherwise laughable McCain campaign. We can't let this be the one thing that might win the election for the Republican ticket.

And of course, there's that nasty Statue of Liberty, and the illegal immigrants it brings in. Would Sarah Palin sell that, too, on eBay? Or maybe just "convert" it, and "save" Wall Street from its evil, while they're at it.

Maybe those same evangelicals would be wiser to pray - no donuts, no bull - for an end to the hatred and narrow-mindedness in their own hearts.

Mr. Lobbyist, Mr. Feed-the-Rich, Mr. Hypocrite McCain Caught With "Satans"

From the Pensito Review:
What Was John McCain Doing on a Yacht with a Conman, a K Street Lobbyist and a Hollywood Celebrity?

The issue, of course, is McCain's public Angelic anti-lobbyist, anti-pork stand, and his The Real McCain pro-lobbyist, pro Big Corporation, anti-worker/jobs actions and in this case, friends. Not to mention him not being hot about "celebrities." Or, of course, "Satan", as the GOP loves to point out.

On the left, a Satanic (GOP term) criminal,
Italian real estate developer Raffaello Follieri pleaded guilty for his involvement in the so-called Vati-Con scandal, a scheme in which he misappropriated a $50 million investment from California billionaire Ronald Burkle meant to buy up abandoned Roman Catholic properties in the United States.

Beside him, his Satanic (GOP term) celebrity girl-friend
Hollywood star, Ann Hathaway—“Princess Diaries,” “Devil Wears Prada” [and “Brokeback Mountain”].

And don't forget lobbyist Rick Weber who was closest to McCain, shown extending his hand. The above link also has a video of this scene, for those interested.
John McCain, in fact, has a campaign run by one of the biggest names in Washington lobbying, Rick Davis. And Davis has a rolodex full of high powered friends like Raffaello Follieri, the conman, who—“The Nation” reports—hired Rick Davis’ business partner shortly after this photo on the yacht was taken.

And what is the significance of Rick Davis? Don't tell me he, too, is a Satanic (GOP term) lobbyist?

Rick Davis is currently the CEO of the McCain campaign, but his real job is as a lobbyist for the K Street firm, Davis, Manafort & Freedman, which is the current formulation of Black, Manafort, Stone and Kelly, which was founded 28 years ago by McCain senior adviser, Charlie Black, one of the originators of Republican the smear and slime attack method of politics that has been so wonderfully successful for the GOP and corporate America but that has driven the country into a ditch. The “Stone” in Black, Manafort, Stone and Kelly, is Roger Stone, the Southern Florida sleazy GOP operative who, for example, earlier this year launched an anti-Hillary Clinton website, with the acronym C.U.N.T.

So where, may I ask, does Sarah Palin fit in? McCain's keeping her in a glass bubble, to protect her from all those nasty men he hangs with. Ahhh, so he intends to fight the "glass ceiling" with a "glass bubble"?

Yes, women, watch out! McCain is fighting glass with glass!

Battlestar Hypocrita

It seems the Buzz of the Day is an impending Battle between "heavyweights" Hillary Clinton and John McCain, something viewed as inevitable by a mysterious Consensus of Power Brokers, aka Powers That Be (God forbid). Yet no one seems particularly enthusiastic about either of them. Except those who partake of that Mysterious Rite of Conformity wherein the Resume ranks supreme, and character means Building a Power Base. But truth always bucks trends, and hypocrisy, contrary to popular belief, is a powerful people-repellent. Which is what's wrong with that impending much-hyped Battle. These two candidates are accomplished hypocrites.

And that's what the office of the President these days seems to be all about. It's about the race to be Hypocrite-in-Chief (HIC or hic). How would the "founding fathers" have fared in today's political environment? The answer - fallen flat. None of them had the proper Power Base. They couldn't please two opposites at the same time. They weren't adept at raising campaign funds - although Ben Franklin was a pretty astute, and successful, businessman. But they probably wouldn't have been fond of PACs or power lunches or influence peddling. They would have abhorred the idea of playing Policeman to the World, even more the idea of taking sides in other people's conflicts, unless there was a threat to our security.

Our meddling ways have led to 9/11, not some pre-existing Islamic agenda. The solutions may not be obvious, but the causes are - unless one loves wearing blinders. And that is precisely what all politicians - if they want to succeed in politics these days - must do. They must say one thing, and do another. They must promise the universe, and deliver black holes. They must make plans, and a cover story to hide those plans under. When they are exposed as liars, they must stick to the lie until death - political or otherwise - do them part. They must be all things to all people - in words - and nothing to all but a few favored folks or interests - in actions. And John McCain is the hypocrite par excellence. He is for whatever will make him look good. He is what he wants you to think he is, as long as the camera is on. Backstage, God only knows what he stands for: himself, of course! Hillary may seem more complex, but she, too, plays the same game. The good news is, expedience works. Hillary is hated as a wild-eyed liberal, except that she is not liberal at all. What was that Iraq vote all about? What was her stance in behalf of the Bush Administration's lies all about? Expediency. It worked. She's a "front runner."

The bad news is that people have brains. And something in the human soul hates a hypocrite. Neither of these candidates deserves even a nomination, let alone that prized election result. The bad news for them is good news for us - maybe. But then again - think about this: Bush got elected, fraud stuff aside, because he LOOKS like he's for real! He really came across to many of the common people as genuine - "shoot straight", he said. They bought it. The bad news is, inside was a load of crap. Better luck next time.

For God's sake, who's afraid of Barak Obama? He may be brilliant, eloquent, and he may have a short resume ... and he may not have the expertise in policy-making that politicos think we need in a president, but he does have a conscience. And he is not a coward. And he's not a hypocrite. And did George W's dad's mile-long resume get us what we want? What about Cheney's policy expertise? Did I say people have brains? So don't just pray for honest rain, for God's sake - vote!
